Abstract
We present a new magnitude/phase measurement IC employing the frequency-shift technique, which enables wide-frequency-range measurement of impedances with low power consumption. Thanks to the frequency-shift technique lowering the operation frequency, IAs and comparators only need to cover a bandwidth of 100kHz instead of 10MHz, reducing the power consumption significantly. The auto-zeroing technique is applied to avoid the adverse effect from the comparator offsets for better measurement accuracy. The proposed IC measures the magnitude and phase of the target impedance over the frequency range up to 10MHz with an error of less than 1.0% and 1.8◦, respectively, while consuming only 544µW.
