    Abstract

One of the most effective ways to help stop the COVID-19 illness causing virus from spreading is to develop non-toxic disinfecting treatments that can be applied to variety of surfaces, including personal protective equipment (PPE). We present a roll-to-roll compatible reactive blade coating for the self-assembly of antiviral nanoparticles (e.g. silver) on rigid surfaces, and commercial face masks. The coated masks and textiles are 99.99 percent effective against a SARS-CoV-2 surrogate virus (Human coronavirus 229E). We further demonstrate that commercially available copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles can deactivate over 99.55 percent of the virus within 30 minutes of incubation.
