    Abstract

The current-mode approach for analog circuit design analog circuit design was reported in the period from 1991-93 by research groups at Texas AM University and Carnegie Mellon University. It consists in representing input, intermediate and output circuit variables by currents rather than voltages as it had been done traditionally. This allows to implement the basic linear and nonlinear operations (addition, integration and scaling or amplification as well as rectification) using only current mirrors. The resulting circuits have only low impedance nodes and can operate with low supply voltage requirements. In this presentation an overview of the current-mode approach is provided.
