    Abstract

An automated system for blood glucose control is presented that fulfils the requirements of an intensive care unit. The design makes use of a microliter syringe for blood sampling, and supports both insulin and glucagon infusion. A third-generation sensing is utilized comprising direct-electron transfer using an immobilized enzyme. In addition, temperature compensation has been added to overcome the effects on reaction kinetics. Besides, it uses nRF52 having integrated wireless radio running an RTOS. Moreover, an IoT network using Thread is illustrated to cover multiple intensive-care wards of a hospital. The system also provides several security features including encryption, fingerprint authentication, hashing device address and login for the user interfaces developed for the caretakers. The sampling interval and the volume collected are approximately 10min and 16µL, respectively.
